Tennis Australia (TA) is embracing AI technology for multilingual marketing at the Australian Open, generating simulated lip movements and voice mimics of players like Novak Djokovic. Despite concerns over consent and image protection, TA's head of innovation, Machar Reid, emphasizes the potential benefits for player profiles and audience engagement. The technology, developed by UAE-based Camb.AI, creates dubs in under 12 hours, with safeguards like English subtitles to prevent misinterpretation. TA, which has invested in startups like Minute.ly and SwingVision, aims to enhance fan and player experiences, seeing technology as pivotal to the tournament's success.
Samsung Electronics China has partnered with Baidu to integrate its Ernie chatbot into the Galaxy S24's AI features for the Chinese market, as reported by CNBC. This collaboration replaces Google's Gemini models, which power the Galaxy AI in Western markets. Despite the change, the S24's AI capabilities, including translation, summarization, and text formatting, remain similar to those in its U.S. launch. The move reflects Google's limited presence in China, where Android devices lack Google apps and services. Samsung's market share in China has declined from 20% in 2013 to around 1% since 2018, as noted by Reuters, amidst strong competition from local brands.
